Thanks a ton for the tip Lev, I tried it last night and it worked awesome. I can't believe I didn't think of just painting each feather like that

Lol you actually free handed all of the Ravenguard symbols?
Amazing work.
Hopefully when the new SM codex comes out they'll release RG shoulder pads...

Yeah, I can do them in my sleep now! :) I hope they do produce some pads, it's about time they did!

Maybe you should do a tutorial about how to do them? Just an idea.

my DA account is "tirpitzluincal" and there you can see my free-hand shoulderpads (not CMoN but my best).

RG? Paint the shoulderpad white. Add the black paint with the smallest paintbrush possible tgo make the "raven" out of it and you know what to do next. White paint isn't that good on the black basecoat...

Interesting..but a bit long winded :) Three coats of white and its fine, then touch up with a fine brush. But I guess everyone does it differently.

One other quick painting question. What was your process for painting the scorch marks on the barrel of the flamer?

I'm too lazy to do it the proper way so i just applay layer after layer of black ink mixed with water, so the closer to the end the darker it gets. Than i go chaos black on the front if it is needed.

Question.

How to paint Saim Hann Stricing Scorpions? They should be green but... Where to put the red paint? (i'm talking about the older design of those miniatures - without hair)

lol :)

I painted the scorch marks using the old inks (OLD! - first ever ones) But you could use the new washes though i've only used badab black so far.

Build up from water down browny/ yellowy with layers, adding more darker browns the closer you get to the tip of the gun, finally using almost black in at the end. The secret is the layers, about four or five.

Scorpions! I dont deal with xenos.. :) (who told you!) Any way, i'd go for the helmets and maybe shoulder pads in red. Paint the green quite dark if you use a bright red and vice versa. I'll post my Karandras at some point with my orks in a xenos watch special or something!

A few new additions, would have liked better shots but rushed them a lil as I had a game on after it. I also forgot to photo my second tac squad, but i'll do that another time. Currently working on devs and a second 10 man assault.

Cheers earthen, just doing my bit for the chapter ;)

The vanguard just pain me now. I spent an actual cash fortune on them, and they are a point vortex I just cant use. Still, live n learn.

The camera just smothers the highlights on the black. Still fiddling with that.

I use my scout sgt as Telion. The scope from lascannons makes a handy stalker bolter end.

Absolutely awesome - wish I could paint a tenth as good.

NB the first shot of the Vindicator is an excellent photo just by itself, one of the few pics of a mini that I really like.
