Well, we did it. Just. The Raven Guard 3rd Company has conquered the chaos-held region of Laconia. We played another game and as we (again!) both held equal objectives, we put it down to victory points. I came out ahead by 250 points. It was a close fought battle, and my opponent exceded my exceptations once again. Anyway, there is now a safe landing area for Captain Levitas and I hope he comes soon! Special mention must go, however, to a lone tactical squad who bested two obliterators in close combat and then held an objective for 3 turns under heavy fire! THe highlights were:

-Shrike jump packing in, to kill a chaos sorceror and then being bested by a bloodthirster.
-An entire space marine assault squad wiped out by a chaos vindicator blast.
-A daemon prince using lash of submission on a devastator squad, annoying them a lot, only to be taken down by rapid-fire by the three bolters in the squad.
-Losing a Grey Knight Terminator to some Lesser Daemons. (Huh?)

Well, thats it for today, but the Thunderhawks have been dispatched... next stop, Darsuc, capital city. (A good excuse for a city-fight mission!)

Oh, and Lev... this is where we are going to post our results on Laconia.

Good to hear that the lines are broken Talon Claw. Sounds like a very bloody battle. Take it easy we don't want the third over advancing as even the staging area has yet to be secured!
Good luck in the battle for the capital.

Don't worry, I won't go very far, just got my scouts back today (My local GW is helping with the campaign, they have made one helluva board!) and the city looks very well defended!

The 8th is exiting the Duletus system. The Silent Night will reach it's warp gate in 2 standard weeks. Estimated arrival on the edge of Hexperax..1 terran month.

Training exercises have been implemented for the 8th, involving advanced infiltration techniques and rapid assault movement exercises.

Heroes of the Duletus campaign have been promoted to the 1st company and begun extensive fire fight training and deepstrike maneuvers. Experimental ammo has been issued to these units, codenamed Sternguard. The Vindicator Directus has been repaired by the companies forge.

Smoke me a kipper, i'll be there for breakfast.

That is welcome news brother. A detachment of 1st Company Vanguard Veterans has been dispatched and should arrive in 1 Terran week. It appears that the capital city is held by Ork hands, and may require heavy fire support.

The Road to Darsuc (The Capital City, hope you don't mind me naming it Evolved, I wanted a bit of flavour! :) )

Ok, I played three combat patrol games to represent a series of skirmishes on the way to the Darsuc. Quite report:

Game 1: Won, with light casulties.
Game 2: Lost, horribly.
Game 3: Won by a mere technicality. I still feel bad.

More detailed:

Game 1:

-One of my Tactical squads got killed by a lot of Tau heavy fire. (They really are not doing very well are they, lol.)
-Shrike flew into combat single-handedly and after three turns killed a whole squad of Fire Warriors.
-Shrike then got killed by Fusion Blasters.
-I gunned down lots of Tau with Plasma Cannons.

Game Two:

-I killed about three Tau and my Assault Marines lost to Fire Warriors in combat. They mauled me.

Game Three:

-Played out like Game one, but my assault squads wrecked havoc behind enemy lines and I took very heavy casulties.

Sorry about how short this is, but my keyboard is really playing up.

Conclusion

The 3rd is still on the road to Darsuc. We will bring the Emperor's wrath to the Xenos!

Attacked by savage wildmen on the road! (Imperial Guard)

Combat patrol - This was from the "For the Glory" tournament held at GD. I got to the semi-finals and then got knocked out by Necrons. Damn Robots.

My list:

5 Tacs - Lascannon
5 Tacs - Lascannon
5 Devs - 2 Heavy Bolters
5 Devs - 2 Missile Launchers

His List

Cadian Shock Trooper Squad:
1 Command Squad with Junior Officer
Lots and lots of infantry with missile launchers!
10 Rough Riders

Turn 1:

I got first turn and opened up with my two Lascannons. I instantly fried two guardmen from a squad. I shot the two missile launchers, one scattered away, the other destroyed a squad of Rough Riders. Finally, my heavy bolters both opened up and killed another four guardsmen from a squad.

He stayed pretty stationary, only moving his command squad forward across the battlefield. He could however fire his rockets. I was less worried when it turned out they had an AP of 4 (?) He fired al four of his launchers and killed one SM.

Turn 2:

His command squad was now within 24" of my boltguns so I opened fire at them. My Lascannon vaporised his officer (he tried to make a 5+ Inv.) and the bolters took out 2 more men. Surprisingly they passed their leadership. My missile launchers took out his last Rough Rider squad and the heavy bolters finished off the squad I had fired at last turn.

All he did was fire some missiles at me, I passed all saves.

Turn 3:

The missile launchers and heavy bolters combined fire to take down another squad, while the two lascannons both missed.

He fired his last missile launcher at me, and I failed the save, that meant two marines down.

Turn 4:

With the combined fire from all my squads, I annihilated him.

I believe thats a 2:1 ratio, lol.

The strike cruiser Silent Night has broken warp on the edge of the Hexperax system. A terran month stands between Laconia and the 8th company of Captain Feros Levitas.

The 8th are in excellent shape after time spent training during the marathon trip across the galaxy (atlantic ocean!)

Look to the skys Talonclaw, for the cavalry is here...

A last stand of epic proportions...

++Official Administratum Report++

The 3rd have been severely crippled today following an attack by Loyalist Crimson Fist and Inquisition forces. My concern is why I was attacked, but I can only guess that there is something on Laconia they do not want us to find. This was also Venerable Dreadnought Milvus' first foray since his promotion to Venerable statis. Dreadnought armour has been damaged badly. I immediately requested support from the Hawk Lords chapter, but they could only send four tactical squads. Thus, I dug in around my command post and defended with all my might. We are not versed in these ways of war, as suc we were outnumbered and defeated.

++End++

Due to a slight error, this game was my 1750 points, and 450 of Hawk Lords against 1500 points of SoB and 1500 points of Crimson Fists.

Turn 1:

They could first turn and immediately attacked my objective with 10 Battle-sisters and two cannoness'. I had a Venerable Dreadnought and two Tacticak squads in the vicinity. One of the assault squads lost 5 men to rapid fire. The two cannoness' fired at my Venerable Dreadnought with Inferno pistols and one destroyed it! However, due to the Venerable special rule, I made him re-roll it and only lost my assault cannon. He fired at me with three whirlwind-type vehicles, and killed more men from the tactical squad, destroying the unit. The Crimson Fists laid down a bit of sniper fire, trying and failing to glance the Venerable. They also advanced Terminators and Tactical Marines across the table.

Immediately I moved all of my units towards my objective, with lots of units heading towards, I needed to secure it fast. My Venerable Dreadnought stepped back and unleashed a hail of bolter fire, killed one battle-sister. My tactical squad ran in and killed one of the cannoness' thanks to the sergeants power sword! The tactical marines also rapid-fire into the battle-sisters, causing four calsulties, making them flee off the table edge. I manouevered (spelling!) the rest of my force round, in an attempt to strike back an my enemies base! The Hawk Lords, merely ran as fast as they could towards the objective.

Turn 2:

The Crimson Fist battle-line approuched my objective, coming within 18" of it. Two dreadnoughts had been dispatched and were following close behind. Once again he fired some long-range SM weaponry from his base, but to no avail. The SoB "whirlwinds" fired off an impressive 15 shots between the three of them, killing the seven Hawk Lords who had been in their path. The remaining cannoness fired once more at my Dreadnought, but failed to hit it. However, just when I thought the objective was secure, he deep-striked... a Callidus assassin... behind a vicious looking... hedge.

My scout squad and one of my tactical squads were now in range of the Crimson Fist battle-line and stayed still, so they coulf fire their sniper rifles and bolters at it. The Hawk Lords still ran on, a mere 39" between them and the enemy objective. At my objective, the dreadnought fired another two bolts, this time at the cannoness, however he failed to bring the inquisition agent down. I fired what guns I had at the Callidus, but it passed its armour saves. I realised my Venerable Dreadnought was going to have to bring down the assassin and cannoness in order to keep hold if my objective.

Turn 3:

The Crimson Fists began to enter my objective by running, they would pay for their arrogance when my turn came. Yet another Tactical squad was brought down by bolter fire from the marines. That left me one and half. His "whirlwinds" fired only 8 shots this time at the Hawk Lords, this time killing five. A squad of Justicars attempted to DS near me, but he went into terrain and on the mishap table rolled a 3! I moved his squad to the furthest corner. His sniper fire ths time finished off the four marines in my depleted squad, however they were helped by the krak missile the squad sent flying. I realised that I was in trouble, as teh Callidus leveled her neural shredder at my Tactical squad. It killed three members, and the template also touched the Venerable. He rolled a 6, but I forced him to re-roll it, and he got a 1, keeping my Dreadnought safe, once again. The assassin attacked the tactical squad, but killed nothing, like me, the combat ending in a draw.

The Hawk Lords still ran towards to the base, now their tactic was not to destroy it, but stop the "whirlwinds from aiming at me! I moved the dreadnought into the Callidus combat. My one remaining Tactical squad ran over to my objective, surveying the destruction around them and wondering if they would be next. I fired the weapons from the rest of my taskforce, killing three terminators, destroying the weapon of a dreadnought and killing seven tactical marines, not a bad turn of shooting. It would now all rest with the assault phase. The Dreanought and assassin traded blows, but her life was ended early when the Ancient's metal foot came down upon her head, killing her instantly. The Venerable moved 3" towards the cannoness, anger flaring in its cold eyes.

Turn 4:

The "whirlwinds" fired at all of the Hawk Lords squads, they failed all of their leadership tests and ran towards the board-edge. There was little fire from their base, all minds wandering towards the assault at the end of the turn. The Crimson Fists were now around 8" away from my base, I had to end this quickly. The assault phase. The cannoness fired her Inferno pistol at me, knocking off the Venerable's other arm and angering him more. The cannoness charged the Dreadnought. But before she could even raise her eviserator, the Dreadnought smashed into here, sending her to the Emperor's side. Also, earlier in the turn, a vindicator had appeared from behind a rock, firing at my position and killing my last tactical squad. My fate was sealed, but I was not down.

I conceded at this point, realising that to continue would be futile, and as Raven Guard, we do not waste men. I fell back into the shadows, falling back.

I am now planning to strike back at my enemy, but there is also good news. Reinforcements arrived a few days go from the 8th. 1st Company Vanguard Veterans.

Captain, it is grave news indeed that you have been attacked by loyalists. But I may be able to liberate an explanation.

My campaign in the Duletious system as been one of considerable strife. The lost company of Red Talons have been located, but they bring grave news.

For over a decade they have tracked a Word Bearers fleet on its path of destruction. The seemingly random path is actually following the lost voyage of the heretic Tech Priest Braakan.

Librarian Velos has managed to gleam answers from the riddles. It seems Braakan stole STCs before the Heresy and fled to Mortarius Vault. In his insanity he hid the fragmented knowledge on significant planets along the way.

Laconia is believed to be one such planet. The black planet of Birmingham was another, which the Word Bearers and their allies have desolated.

The STCs are believed to be of some significance to the Word Bearers, while Braakan was listed as being a genius in warship schematics.

The traitors have weaved an intricate web. Be mindfull.
