THE HARKONIS CAMPAIGN

I thought i'd let you guys know what i'm upto after the 8th left the fallen planet of Elisius in the Hexperax system. I decided to take part in a campaign at my local store in Dallas. This is well organized and with a dedicated bunch of gamers. We are into turn 2 now (week2 ) and its all kinds of fun.

Brief Overview

The campaign is run at my local store, we have a set 10 players and a protected forum where we view the map and arrange games. It is split up into turns lasting 2 weeks each, with each turns points being 1000+ the turn number.

Breakdown:

guard - 3
Orks - 2
Space marines - 3
Chaos marines - 1
Tyranids - 1

STORYLINE:
The city in the center is also the main objective of this campaign. Essentially, the city is very well defended and none of the players in the campaign have the capability to take it down. The winner of the campaign will be the player with the most territories after game turn 15, or after the players play a 2500 point battle. It's assumed then that that player has massed enough forces, and they crush the city and take the planet for themselves. This player will then be the controller of Harkonis VII when we do a system-wide campaign to follow this one.

Several minor strategic asset markers have been placed on the board. There are 2 radar arrays, a shipyard, a tunnel system, and an artillery nest. The radars give the controlling player the Recon Strategic Asset for any battles, attacking or defending, in that territory or surrounding ones. The shipyard allows the controlling player to count any territories across the sea from it between the two bridges [see map] as adjacent, and can move to and attack them. The tunnels allow the owning player to count the territory across the tunnel as adjacent, and allows the player to raid any territory touching the mountains. The artillery nest gives the controlling player the Orbital Bombardment Strategic Asset when DEFENDING the area surrounding it or the small island adjacent. NOT the actual territory of the nest.

Fighting Battles:

Battles taking place in territories with Asset counters are Take and Hold missions with one central objective. Players may choose what mission to play when their home territories are being attacked, but the deployment style is chosen by the attacker [this is a change I thought would be fluffy. If y'all don't like it we can do random deployment style]. All other areas are randomly selected missions.

Starting campaign turn 3, when Planetstrike is released on the 4th, players may opt to, instead of making a normal move, launch a planetstrike attack on ANY territory on the map that is currently controlled by an enemy and is NOT a home territory. Victory claims the territory for the attacker but supply line rules still hold, in that if the taken territory is not connected to the rest of your territories by an unbroken chain, you can't launch assaults or move from it.

Planetstrike into contested territory (TUrn 3 onwards):

In the event that someone planetstrikes into a territory being fought over [ie a player has attacked another player's territory and someone drops in] here's how it's going to work.

The two players making the ground assaults will BOTH be defenders. There will be an odd number of objectives. One will be held by noone, and the two defenders will each control equal numbers of objectives in the board. Both defenders use the defender force organization chart, and the planetstriker uses the attacker one.

Whichever player controls the most objectives will take the territory. Here's how ties work.

3-way tie: Actual defender holds the territory.
Planetstrike attacker loses, defenders tie: Actual defender holds the territory
Ground attacker loses, Planetstrike and actual defender tie: Actual defender holds the territory

Actual defender loses, Both attackers tie with each other: Kill points decide who takes the territory.
Still a tie? The territory becomes contested between the two attackers, the actual defender is kicked out, and the two attackers fight a normal game next campaign turn in addition to normal actions to decide who takes it.

In the event that two or more people are BOTH/ALL attacking by planetstrike, the same rules as above apply with logical modifications. Both planetstrikers will be attackers and hold buildings by attacker's rules. Since in planetstrike even a single model of the attacker's is in contact with an objective they take it, [or something like that] there's going to be stiff competition. If both attackers are claiming the same objective, it will count as contested and go towards NOBODY, so attackers must either organize their attacks and give ground to "allies" if suitable, or be ruthless and cull all opposition to take what they want. In the meantime the defender will capitalize on their petty squabbles by enjoying a null objective that counts towards noone if both attackers are still trying to take it from each other at game end.

Home Territory Assets:

Players will receive these strategic assets when defending their home territories. Remember defender gets to choose the mission, but attacker chooses deployment style. For those with objective-dependent assets, you may want to make sure you choose objective missions!

Space Marines - Heroic Stand
Imperial Guard - Strongholds [use the hobbytown bunkers, or your own terrain if you like]
Tyranids - They're All Around Us!
Orks - Trophy Kill
Chaos Space Marines - Corrupt and Despoil

"Strategic Reserves" in the case of assets means "Reserves".

Everyone will have a starting territory as their Home territory. They'll be relatively evenly spaced. Each campaign turn, players will make 1 move into a territory touching one of their other controlled territories. If that territory is empty, they take it. If that territory is occupied by another player, those two players will arrange a game to take place before the next campaign turn.

Games will be of a point value of 1000+x, where x = (Campaign turn x100). Players must keep the same army, but not necessarily the same army list, throughout the campaign. Models must be painted to be used.

Raven Guard 8th - story so far...

2nd turn map attached. After securing the northen territories the 8th headed west to tackle rebelious guard. The game was a tense tight affair with Librarian Velos claiming a victory, and the terrotory, on turn 7. Then on turn 2 the 8th pushed on into Ork domains, facing a numerous foe I drew upon the might of the LRC. Another close game but the terrirory was taken.

Games left this turn.

Defensive game to the west, IG trying to take back their lost territory 1200pts
Defensive game 'Raid' - to the south. Chaos raiding force of 600pts to weaken my southern front. RG 1200pt forcelead by Chaplain Renatus.

Sounds like a very Comprehensive campaign i love the little variants on the games you will play, and having a living map should prove to be a nice addition.

Love the fluff, and more importantly the opportunity for you and the other players to progress it and move it forward.

Very nicely done and i'll watch very carefully.

We have just introduced Allies. I have teamed up with the other 2 marine players. Watch out for 3 chapters raining down using planet strike...in one game. cant wait.

The other marine players are south and south west (DA and custom chapter) Only time before the ork players unite, and th IG do the same. The Chaos player is tough enough to go it alone...or may team up with nids!
