since it has come up elsewhere, i thought it would be a good idea to discuss books and other literature that is out there for us to find and gather information from, that will help us develop more/better tactics on the table tops. or even just books that are especially good that you would recommend to everyone else.

I'd like to keep things away from Black Library publications, simply because we all know that they are good for fluff, and killing time, but most aren't the greatest books for true literary value.

I'll start off with ones that i have posted previously that, to me have great military/tactical value:

"the gallic wars" by julius caesar
"the rommel papers" by irwin rommel
"attacks" by rommel (havent really read more than a couple pages of this one yet)
"art of war" sun tzu (of course)
"history of rome, books XXI-XXX the war with hannibal" by Livy

Both of these are over 20 years old, but they give good accounts of special force style ops (particularly the raids on airbases in North Africa in WW2).

Who Dares Wins Tony Geraghty

The Special Air Service Philip Warner.

The latter has the advantage of being the official history at that point, and came recommended by a teacher of mine who was, I think, ex-SAS.

Excellent post. Topic Stickied.

As for recommended reading...

The Book of Five Rings - Miyamoto Musashi
- There are many different lessons you can take from this. One of the most important ones is to not be confined to a form...essentially being open.

Unlimited Power - Anthony Robbins
-Yeah, this book isn't about tactics or warfare, but we all need a balance...This book is an excellent book for self-improvement. It will change lives.

And for those of us who want to know how to honor ourselves and the chapter, I recommend the Hagakure (The Book of the Samurai)... by Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

Oh, but I would very much advise skiping over the "claim honor in death" and "kill yourself if you fail" parts.

Has manuals from the USMC ( Semper Fi ), think its part of a training academys literature.
