So..we have Ravens Talons and the Raven Blade. So original some guy at GW missed his do-nut break coming up with them. The vastly creative bunch that we are can, and will, come up with better.

Corax, The Chapter Master, The 1st Captain, etc etc.

They all need great weapons and wargear. But don't be restricted by that, come up with whatever you want. The mantle of eternal night, the eye of corax, the edge of reason :) etc. And rules, or the means to use them in the current codex as a 'counts as'.

The Wings of Deliverance
The first Captain is an experienced Vanguard. When not in Terminator armour he may be equiped with the Wings of Deliverance. This ancient jump pack allows any Vanguard unit he leads to re-roll the scatter dice when using heroic intervention. In addition the unit can leave an assault if in combat should they choose to. The enemy may not pursue but may consolidate

Ebony Glaive
A hero of the Raven Guard may weild the Ebony Glaive. Master crafted power weapon that is also poisoned (2+)

The edge of dusk immortal - Master crafted relic blade with a built in plasma gun. given to the highest ranking vanguard veteran in the 1st company.

The light of dawn
- twin linked plasma pistol, may fire twice up to 16"

The Illumination - While the raven guard normally abhor the use of brute force, it is sometimes necessary. When it is, thunder hawks deliver tanks with breath taking efficiency to the field of
battle.

Illumination is the chapters most revered tank. A predator bearing all lascannons, it uses an ancient relic computer found far in the galactic south., which literally brings it to
life. IF affected by crew stunned or shaken, the vehicle may fire all weapons with a BS of 3. When firing as normal, all las cannons count as being twin-linked. Additionally, it
has a turret mounted, high speed plasma weapon, with the following profile - Str 4, ap 3 Assault 4, range 32"

And my favorite:

Bulwark of the Night - A massive, 2 handed black stormsheild embellished with chapter history. It is awarded with much prestige and honor to a marine in the command squad of the 2nd company. The marine serves as the shield for the captain and squad, leading his group on the charge. May allocate up to 2 wounds from the command squad and the captain to the Shield bearer each turn. Confers a 2+ invulnerable save. No other weapons may be taken.

Skill taken by the chaplain. Not really artifacts, but still kinda cool i think
Preachings of movement nocturnal - As long as the chaplain remains alive, all units count as having stealth.
Preachings of piercing the darkness - All units gain an extra D6 when rolling for night fight special rules
Preachings of Aves - All units may roll 2 D6 when fleeting, and choose the higher of the two.
Preachings of the Talon - All sergeants gain an extra close combat attack following a charge.
Preachings of the Dive - The chaplain inspires death defying, abnormally low and dangerous deep strikes by assault squads. Roll only one D6 for scatter. If a 6 is rolled, roll a a D3. 1 means the squad is safe. On a 2, Each squad member takes a Str 5 hit. On a 3, each squad member takes a wound. Saves rolled for as normal.

Yeah i love all the ideas especially the Illumination, (sorry im a tad obsessed with tanks, hence an upcoming armoured company)

How about a unit? (i have been working on them in secret until complete but heck might as well throw it out there)

Coraxian Guard

The Coraxian guard are a mystical and enigmatic unit that few have heard about and even fewer have seen. They're being has passed into legend and myth, over an endless time. Their Ancestory dates back to isstvan V, the darkest of all time for the Raven Guard. When the Traitors attacked, they carved a path to a nearby thunderhawk, sweeping through fire and pain they fought desperately. They held the way open with sheer determination as the shattered body of Corax was rushed to safety. Holding the line for as long as possible for their brothers to escape. Holding the Standard high to signal their defiance to the enemy and hope to their allies. Their Bravery Saved the lives of but a few But their spirit kept the chapter alive. Killing Traitor after Traitor with bolter, sword and fist, they exacted a heavy toll on the traitors before the day was through.

The few of these marines who made it to safety, swore to never die while their enemies live, But as time drew on, and the desperate measures used by corax to maintain their numvbers, brought a very differnt role that needed to be played. With the blessing of Corax himself, They were to guard the libraries of old, hidden deep within the Ravenspire. They carry with them the history and tragedy of the chapter. There inside lies the texts of Isstvan, and the weapon of Corax's darkest hour, the weapon that ended the suffering of the monsters he created. It was to them, Wracked with sorrow he uttered the words "Nevermore..."

Rules
The Coraxian guard operate in a similar way to an ultramarine honour guard, But are armed with the shield of Isstvan and Spear of deliverance as they Specialise in defence rather then attack.

The Shield of Isstvan is essentially a storm shield, but if expertly used can parry the enemies oncoming attacks. This means that if charged by an attacker, the attacker does not gain the +1 attack from charging. (this includes if they are engaged in combat and are assualted by another foe. unlike tau photon grenades)

The Spear of Deliverance is classed as a power weapon with the rending special rule.

One Marine In the squad may replace his shield and spear with the standard of the Raven. This is classed as a chapter Banner in all respects.

A marine who has shown himself both deadly and honourable can be recruited the Coraxian Guard, this is a rare occasion and is useual a captain of great skill. This Marine will fight with twin lightning claws (which act as though master crafted), such is his skill with these weapons of war, it can often confuse and disorientate an attacker, and therefore is granted a 4+ invulnerable save in close combat.

(ps. not worked out the points but tbh they aint gonna be cheap)

I like them a lot. The fluff is great and the rules balanced. I'd take a unit if they were legal. You have to try them out in a 'tinkering' battle :)

The Order of the White Ravens

The Order of the White Ravens is much like the Coraxian, though they are used as advisors to captains and other commanders. It is traditional for the current First White Raven to act as advisor to the Raven Lord. There are only know to be three White Ravens at the moment. Although, they often far surpass the skill of the chapter's most esteemed captains. The White Ravens hold no official standing within the chapter, although they are highly respected by all. It is not unsual for a White Raven to take command of a company, demonstrated in the ongoing Hexperax crusade.

Good work Talonclaw, where ever did you get your inspiration? ;)

I like the tempest pistol, is it like the noisy cricket from men in black? Maybe not restrict it to once per game, bit harsh. Or crank up the damage and make it a hand held demolisher.

For Darkreever I would say increase the potency of the Eye of the Raven. Say, he can auto choose to go second or first and may choose to re-roll reserve rolls.

Really cool stuff guys, we could certainly write our own codex. keep it coming...

Hehe Talonclaw called me noble :P lol (god knows where he got that idea from :P) ps, Levitas i've tried to base the coraxian guard a lot on the Ultramarine Honour guard, so im gonna find a player who has the honour smurfs and then see who's better :P

I love the rules. ALL of them, especially the tempest pistol :P although you could make it fairer and add a gets hot rule or something? just a suggestion, but it would almost make sense for something that powerful, although because its me i'd endlessly roll 1's :P

I agree Codex Sons of Corax here we come :P

Very interesting Talonclaw, pretty cool rules for the White Raven's.

Seeing as we all have our own different fluff at times, I branched off differently with the White Ravens; here is my unit for them:

The Order of the White Raven's:
The White Raven's are members of the chapter whose deeds and actions have proven them worthy to uphold an honour of being an advisor to other members of the chapter. Such a rank may be bestowed upon any marine by the leaders of the order, and as such is not limited to chapter and company heads.

The leaders of the order each bear a different title that grants them duties above those of their current position within the chapter. White Raven leaders are above many in the chapter and answer only to each other and the chaptermaster of the Raven Guard, the White Raven Lord or Ravenlord as is his own title.

White Raven leaders:
You may upgrade a chaplain, librarian, master of the forge, or captain to a White Raven title for Xpts, to which he and any unit he joins gain the fearless special rule along with the special rules for that given title where applicable.

White Raven titles:
Order: Allows for a re-roll for first turn and can re-roll reserves, however if this re-roll is taken then all reserves must be re-roll, not just failed rolls. The second result must be taken. (40pts)

Strife: May take either a vanguard or assault squad as a command squad. (40pts)

Shadow: Has the infiltrate special rule, however he may not choose to outflank). (40pts)

Courage: Captain only- Has the feel no pain special rule. (40pts)

Determination: Chaplain only-any squad the chaplain joins recieves a +5 invulnerable save (30pts)

Wisdom: Librarian only- Allows for three powers to be taken (30pts)

Power: Has access to the chapter master orbital bombardment special rule. (25pts)

Ancient: One dreadnought or ironclad dreadnought may be taken as a troops choice, this unit does not fill the required compulsary choice. (25pts)

Watch: Comes with a free storm shield, has the outflank special rule. (40pts)

Guard: One squad of sternguard may be taken as troops choice, this unit does not fill the required compulsary choice. (30pts)

You may only ever have one unit upgraded to a White Raven leader, and that leader may only ever have one title in a given game.

Ravenlord: Both the chapter master of the Raven Guard and lord of the Order of White Ravens, the Ravenlord has trained and learned from each of the leaders of the order. The Ravenlord is an upgrade to a chapter master and may choose up to two titles and use their rules at the points indicated for each. If the Ravenlord is present than no other White Raven leaders may be chosen just as if a White Raven leader had been taken.

Rules-wise its still a work in progress... 8)
