I'll give the Guard one a go, with the new Codex coming out it's not going to be a case of "let your AP5 weapons do all the work" any more...

Excellent!

It's good to see you guys stepping up and lending your knowledge. I know that it takes time, and we all have many important things to do in that thing called real life. It touches my heart to see that you're willing to spend your time contributing here.

Gentlemen, I appreciate the effort and initiative you are taking, and i'd like to tell you that your contributions won't go unrewarded. But i can't tell you the reward...it'll spoil the surprise! :O

So Keep it up!

On the matter of tactica depth, i'm not asking for the depth of the vanguard tactica(it took me a week to do that), however something along the lines of between the Vanguard tactica and Lev's Shrike Tactica would be sufficient. I'll help out some more by adding where necessary.

Once again, this is an excellent start to a great project. Lets make this dream a reality!

Very well put! :)

I'm excited, I think we can make it better than the Wood Elves. I will certainly do my best to make it look good at the end ;)

Play to your strengths, i'm sure we have all uncovered gems in our tactics. Write it up and we can all help each other shape their articles. Time is valuable these days so its good to help each other out.

The end product could be something that is talked about across the web, maybe even glanced at by GW. Quality usually gets its recognition.

I have been out of the game for 7 years but im getting back into it now and building a RG force. Anything i can do to help let me know.

I can help out with the tactics, if only theoretically until i get a few battles under my belt.

I look forward to hearing from any of you guys.

Spikes.

hey guys, back from spring break and should be around for a bit now.

i love the idea for the codex and think that it could really work well. My biggest concern would be our lack of "trimming" that GW has for its codexes (EDITORS)- i remember very well from reading an interview that a major problem with the SM codex was what to include to keep it concise and to the point. They had far too much pertinent information and needed a way be sure the codex stayed on track so it would have a cohesive feel and natural flow through the book. That said, i think its worth noticing that no codex to this point has really had a tactica section for each and every possible opponent list - i think there's too much information there. While GW tends to leave the tactica to the player community to figure out- i think a little extra guidance could do new players alot of good. So heres something i thought about - and definitely just a suggestion.

Write VERY brief tactia vs opponent sections. perhaps under some arbitary number, like 8 sentences or something, and make it sound like a mission briefing from a raven guard captain or something.

for instance, against tau you might want to talk about
*tau ranged firepower
*getting into close combat quickly
*possible to outgun tau infantry with heavy bolters - but tau are often safe from this tactic while in transports.
*protect your tanks until the time comes for them to do their job. I.E. dont keep rhinos in the open to get a few extra storm bolter shots off
*watch out for devilfish 12+ move /disembark 12" rapid fire with markerlights which greatly increase tau firepower.
*need to be A) quick to catch firewarrior squads before they hop back in devilfish. B) DEFINITELY able to shoot down devilfish
*BRIEFLY explain battlesuits - i.e. "high firepower units with 3+ save and 2 wounds, able to move 12" a turn while firing."
*BRIEFLY explain broadsides - "high armor, long ranged str 10, AP1. Railguns are tau's primary tank killers."

this way you hit the major points of an army, without having to explain things such as static/mech/partial mech/suit spam lists or their wargear - like markerlight mechanics - in depth.

Once I get my schoolwork caught up on and stuff I'll try to write a little snippet that might be prove useful to players looking to get into tournament play. I should probably get lev in on that as well :P

Top drawer stuff and I for one agree fully. I want the detail but not some overly cumbersome tomb that will quickly outdate anyway.

My time could become less easy to come by as my job situation is veering into new waters. But i'll do what I can for ya buddy. I've got a few tournies lined up the next few months so onwards into the masses. I've also come by a cheap LRC so will be playing around with tactics.

It would be good to get a few more core articles
* Scouts
* pods
etc

Good Job gentlemen,

I know that work on the codex has slowed down because of our various responsibilities, however, keep going. Step by step, we'll get there soon :)

Glad you're liking the work SyN ;)

Would it be in our best interests that when all the main articles/tactica have been completed, a set of 10 army lists ranging from 750points to 2000points be made (and refined through the comunity of course) and added as an appendix to the Codex? I thought with this is project being made with new Shadow-Captains (players) in mind, having a serise of army lists for others to base their army on could really be beneficial.

It would also be nice where available for seasoned players to play-test these lists against various armies, to give feedback on their performance and offer alternative wargear options, so when someone takes on one of those army lists, they know what to expect.

I know its a big job, thats why it would be one of the last things done (if required), but it could really be helpful for newer players in the future =)

(oh, and SyN, you forgot to link to the Dreadnought Tactica on the index ;) )

Right well i'll take scout bikes, and possibly a few others (such as captain and command squad) Thunderfire and Landraider.

I have a few days of uni a week so i can test them out

Also i've updated the LOTD Tactica to include using specific characters and add some tweaks to it.
