WARNING...WARNING...WARNING
NOVEL APPROACHING...
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Right so I always found It strange about my lack of battle reports (and as this is the second time I’ve wrote this one I may understand why) but I found it even stranger that as I know evolved in real life, that there are very few battle reports between us two. So we decided to grab a few models and knock out a quick game (only half way through did we think of doing a battle rep) so here it is, and please excuse the tactical blunders and the like, were not great tacticians like some of you and for the past few months have been concentrating hobby time to dare I say it....fantasy. So here goes a rusty battle report from two rusty 40k generals.

sorry for some of the pics,

Deployment: Standard (and as this was for fun we decided to deploy first and then roll for the mission)

Delta strike force.

Librarian Epistolary, storm bolter, gate of infinity and the avenger.
10 man tactical squad with meltagun and missile launcher. Sergeant with power weapon and storm bolter. Razorback (combat squaded)
6 man scout squad, sniper rifles and 1 missile launcher camo cloaks. Led by Telion
6 man sternguard squad with 2 x combi-meltas
7 man assault squad sergeant with thunder hammer.
4 man scout biker squad sergeant with astartes grenade launcher and melta bombs.
Land speeder Typhoon.

Vindicator

Ultramarines 5th company strike force

Captain artificier armour, plasma pistol and power sword.
10 man tactical squad, flamer and lascanon sergeant bolt pistol and chainsword. (Combat squaded)
10 man tactical squad, missile launcher, melta gun.
10 man assault squad, flamer, plasma pistol, sergeant with power sword,
5 man terminator assault squad 2 lightning claws and 3 thunder hammer / storm shield
Land Raider crusader.

Deployment

End of deployment saw my scouts sternguard and typhoon on the far right hand side, my armoured elements and tactical squad in the centre and the assault squad hugging cover on the left.

Evolved had crusader with terminators on his right with half his combat squaded tactical squad in the centre with a lascanon, with the other element of it supporting a tactical squad on his left.

Here goes.... dice bounces of a ruin, and it’s a 5

Mission: Annihilation (great as we’ve just combat squaded units. Ah well the perils of the dice gods. )

Turn One

Not much, lascanon missed vindicator, (no lucky one shot wonders this time) crusader moved up straight for the middle. The other Tactical squads advanced.

_____________________________________________________

Dumbfounded and trying to figure out how I was gonna take down the land raider, I shuffled my razorback and vindies forward a bit and took some pot shots with my snipers at the advancing combat squad and captain. Three wounds one allocated to the captain who failed his roll, not a bad start.

Turn two

Crusader moved up splitting my armoured company in two and failing to damage the vindicator with its multi melta. The combat squad containing his sergeant moved up and his tactical squad moved onto position on the hill. The assault squad was still nowhere to be seen.
____________________________________________________

More pot shots from the scouts pattered off the combat squad with none doing damage. This time the sternguard opened up at 30” and took one down in the process. One vindicator moved forward and popped smoke, desperately trying to aid its lifespan after being force into a clear space of board.

Image

Typhoon wary of the missile launcher which now could draw a bead to it moved behind cover. My scout bikers outflanked ready to cause damage to the tactical squad, but were forced onto the other side. The Razorback disembarked its contents and hoping that the meltagun toting marine inside would be able to fell the behemoth of a machine. My assault squad moved up ready to assault if all went ill. The tactical fired, and the meltagun skimmed the crusader, missing it at point blank range. The assault marines went in, the sergeant needing 6’s to hit. Two 5’s and a four promptly reared their heads.

Image
The twin assualt with melta and hammer fail allowing the terminators to charge into the midst of the Ravens lines.

Turn three

Image

The terminators inside the land raider charged out like a tide of unstoppable fury. And the crusader spinning to deal a death blow against the assault squad who tried to defile it. The tactical squad on the left hill moved up to eventually cover the whole battlefield with their LOS, as the captain urged his followers onward towards the scouts. The land raider opened up on the assault marines, and felled two, due to some disastrous rolling by evolved and some miraculous saves from me. The multi melta on top guided by the machine spirit dissipated against the vindicators armour.

The terminators charged forward smiting down the razorback with a series of fearsome blows. The combat squad embroiled in combat with the lightning claw dealers of death struck back with the sergeant’s power sword felling their two assailants for the loss of three of their own, but their bravery leaving only thunder hammers and storm shield wielders in their path. Thankfully they held their ground as the victorious terminators piled in.

With the thunder hammer terminators deep in my own lines and seeing the damage caused to the razorback the nearby vindicator moved its full compliment away from the carnage.

The librarian focused the world slowly slightly as the tendrils of the warp flowed across his mind, the daemons clawed at him, but his mind was clear of such dangers. The Gate opened in front of them, a mystical range of colours, scattering across a whole range of tones and hues the space marine’s palette could ever comprehend. The librarian strode forward confidently into the gate, only looking back to beacon his veteran bodyguard forward....

The gate snapped shut and immediately they were spat out onto the green battlefield. The veterans dazed and staggering gathered themselves and their new surroundings in split second timing. A lonely hill standing clear in front of them, and the faces of their dazed enemies staring blankly t them The sternguard forced their nausea back, raising their bolters in unison....

++++++++++

The librarian gated to the left of the tactical camping on the hill, with a vicious round of storm bolter, hellfire and avenger hits, as the typhoon skirted around and aimed and fired at them. Only one was left after the smoke had cleared. The scout bikers’ turbo boosted their way toward the lascanon combat squad and my assault squad assaulted the land raider once again. The Scouts still peppered the commander and his ad hoc command squad one falling, but failing again to d any damage. The vindicator plopped its pie plate down but scattered clear. Seems the captain’s luck was holding.

The assault squad was about to roll to hit the crusader when but a quick look in the rulebook showed pivoting doesn’t count as movement, three automatically hitting thunder hammer hits along with some cumulative damage meant the crusader was now but a smoking wreck. The terminators smashed aside the sergeant and the shamed meltagunner and proceeded on their way to the missile launcher combat squad.

Turn four

Look to the skies.... the assault squad screeched through the air and landed square in the space in front of the land raider, to support the terminators in their action.

Image

The terminators charged onwards into the raven guard’s missile combat squad. The ultramarines lascanon finally found its mark ripping the open vindicators demolisher canon clean off.

The assault squad fired their pistols at the assault squad, killing one, and the terminators cut apart the missile combat squad, killing two with no loss.

Image

The last remaining tactical squad sergeant on the hill turned towards the sternguard and charged, missing all 4 times and being cut down.

Image
defiant till the end

___________________________________________

The broken vindicator tank shocked the open ad hoc command squad but they just simple moved out of their way, towards the scouts, who failed to do any more damage. The librarian and his squad gated into a more central position. The scout bikers slowed their pursuit, firing into the lascanon squad but causing no wounds. The assault squad victoriously jumped over the land raider, a move I called conserving kill points.... and a move evolved called blatant cowardice in the face of his own assault squad. You decide who was right : D : D
The remaining vindicator turned and in one series of events turned the battle.

++++++++++++++++

“Brother Assault squad behind us” the gunner spoke quickly over the internal vox.
“Confirm brother Sarian.” Darvan spoke sternly, irritated at his newest recruits lack of information.
“10 assault marines, standard deep strike deployment, Anti personal with possible melta grenades. Threat moderate.” He rattled off quickly but clearly noticing the hint of irritation his superior had tried to hide so well.
“Acknowledged brother, well done.” Darvan glanced at his driver, and the vehicle slewed to the right.
“Load ordinance, we’ll show them not to come to the party without an invite” Darvan spoke calmly and Sarian readied himself, loading the shells both quietly and efficiently acting almost like a well oiled machine.
“Target insight, hold, fire!” The whole vehicle rocked back as the power of the demolisher rippled along the hull. The assault squad disappeared in a wall of earth and smoke, as the high explosives took their toll. When the dust cleared even Darvan was impressed.

++++++++++++++++

The pie plate lay over the assault squad, the scatter dice heavy in my hand. I rolled

:D:D

Image

9 wounds no armour... that’s the reason I take vindicators, for all their unreliability, it is the pure destructive power they can bring :D.
On another note the terminators chomped through the missile launcher combat squad :( leaving one tactical marine to run and flew the board.

Image

Turn Five

Image
Taken just before the termies wiped out the missile squad

The terminators turned around seeking vengeance for the assault squads’ demise. Whilst the assault squad sergeant tried to get in range and halt the scout biker’s advance. The ad hoc command squad fired point (point) blank into the scouts felling two. Evolved forgetting rapid firing stopped you from charging :(.

Image

The lascanon combat squad opened up into the scout bikers but caused no wounds.

_______________________________________________

The assault squad doubled back drawing LOS to the lone assault squad sergeant, and gunning him down in a hail of pistol fire. The librarian gated with his squad in an effort to force the terminators away from the vindicator. The scatter forced the squad onto the wrecked razorback, causing a dangerous terrain check which one of the veterans failed.

Image

The vindicator turned and fled. Another move which made evolved shout “Coward!” and the scout bikers.....err were accidentally forgotten, and the scouts fired into the ad hoc command squad killing all but a single flamer.

Turn six

The last remaining flamer fired but caused no wounds, the lascanon combat squad opened up again on the scout bikers killing two. The thunder hammer terminators agonisingly an inch too far away from the vindicator.
_______________________________________________

Well last turn my assault squad charged the lascanon along with the scout bikers. Cutting down 4 of their number, for no loss, the sergeant stood firm though denying a kill point. The scouts fired and killed the final flamer.

Counting up it made for a victory to the ravens.

Hopefully that made up for the lack of battle reports from us two and maybe they’ll be some more in the future.

thanks i'll post up more pictures of the force but some of them aren't fully painted and my poor typhoon suffered a bad case of "OMG i've just dropped a really fragile model" and i didn't feel like faffing on trying to line up wings and missile pods :( but thank you again :D

Awesome - awesome - awesome!

Just to see photos, humour, fluff and a pie to the face of several men in blue. Heh heh.

Very much enjoyed seeing you two throw down some dice. And enjoyed the Ravens winning even more. :)

More!!

I CLAIM MORAL VICTORY ON THE GROUNDS THAT

1 HE CHEATED
2 THE DICE WERE FICKLE
3 HE CHEATED
4 HE CHEATED
5 I MADE SOME MISTAKES

oh and he cheated

Only joking like, I did make some silly mistakes and overall the dice were very fickle normally just short a 1 on a dice or summat.

Also N.B. He hasn't mentioned the fact that in the first game we played my lascannon rolled 3 6s on his vindi

Very nice, I haven't been playing 40k a lot either, I have beenplaying fantasy lizards against my friends ever so cheesy VC (vampire counts)
I managed to persuade him to move back to 40k after he beat me 5 times running when I was playing good.
Now i play allied DH and RG which i find quite fun.
