other than a couple of rather minor mold lines on pedro, looks pretty good.

Have you thought of how you want to base the minis? TBH, bases can truly make or break your army, and whether you're the best or worst person at basing, a soldier standing on dirt and grass, as opposed to black plastic just looks better. :D

just my 2 euro cents

I love the gritty war torn feel of your minis. The facial scarring on your tac sgt is really, very cool.

x2 on basing your mini's, always a huge plus.

Eyes and even lenses take time, just keep at it. You definately have good brush skills, anyone got any specific advice on doing eyes?

Man, I love your metallic paint too, the weathering is great.

basing will come. most likely a grass and gravel kinda thing. my shrike i bought 2nd hand already painted is based like that so will continue that thru my army.
i will get a pic of him up some time. mold lines dont stand out so much in regular play :P but now i see it in the pic i agree...

think i will get one of those magnifying glass things to help with the eyes.

You bring up a good point, there... At some point you do have to decide how much detail you want to paint in, and be practical with your time, and/or need to get stuff on a tabletop to play. I'm no expert, but in my (admitedly limited) experience, you can overpaint and overdetail your miniatures with tools like a magnifying glass...

This is not to dissuade you from getting one or its use, just don't freak out! Also, double check the lighting in your hobby area, play with its intensity and the number of sources of light, you'd be amazed at how much this helps. I also really appreciate natural sunlight, and its cheaper.

Looking forward to more pics man!

actually the first line should be paint/model in... as you were talking about mold lines...

I'm pretty sure this is a metal mini, if it were plastic you could just use some Tenax to clean them up (prior to primer.) If I'm pointing out something you already know, just shoot me! ;)

no i did not know :) ive on and off collected 40k for a while (mostly off) these are my first real attempts at doing a decent paint job. before these it was undercoat and go pretty much... any other tricks would be nice to know, products, techniques etc. one thing i want to really work on is my highlighting. i do lazy dry brushing for the majority and i think thats possibly where the grittyness comes from, and maybe the washes add to that too.

i will get some more pics up later. more sergeants and shrike, even though i didnt paint him. its looks decent.

Here is Shrike. I didnt paint it. Shows what i prolly end up doing for the bases. thinking of stripping it down and doing my own. prolly be easier to buy a new.

whats the easiest way to strip down a metal mini?

me personally, i'd use something like Simple Green, or whatever its equivalent is around the world.

Basicallly, with simple green, you fill a small, sealable container with the green, then drop the mini in and seal it up. Then, a day or so later, you pull out the mini, and scrub him with a softer bristled brush (like a toothbrush). Then rinse the model off. repeat as needed. Just make sure to rinse before you try to put more paint on him again.

simple green is safe to use on plastics too!

If you live in the US, its very easy to find. Look around the automotive de-greasers.

You can be harsh on metal though. Paint thinner, etc.

Another fine paint remover (especially on metal mini's) is Dettol (UK) or Pinesol (US/EU) - a pine-oil based cleaner. The 'Original' version of either works wonders. Leave in a sealed plastic container for 24 hours, grab a couple of unwanted toothbrushes and brush the paint off under warm running water. If you've got some stubborn spots, put back in the Pinesol for another 12-ish hours and try again. Its not perfect, as it does leave a little colour behind on the pewter, but a new undercoat/base-coat will cover that without worry.
Its also pretty damn good on plastic minis, but be careful not to leave it in too long. I threw an unwanted body/head/arms combo in there and forgot about it for over a week. When I pulled it out, the paint came off great, but so did most of the plastic detail.... lol
