Very interesting and insightful, though I wouldn't so much say its a must for proper battle reports, it is definitely a very helpful guide to good battle reports. (Personally, I'd like to think the ones I have written are decent and proper reports despite not having the likes of a briefing/debriefing.)

Id love to learn how to edit the backround of a picture out like that. Great guide lev!

although, i feel like there are many acceptable styles of bat reps.
I personally like a short into stories with a more concise recap of events turn by turn, or a slight bit of narrative through out the whole match. Straight up (x assaulted y and caused 5 wounds) works too though. I just like the format to be consistent through the body of each battle.

I would love to start doing really nice battle reports (once in a blue moon of course) like that, though.

The way that person took out the background is they cropped it out with any video editing tool (Lots of free ones out there)

You can tell because the top of the tree goes suddenly flat :)

It is a cool article and i'm gonna throw the idea at my gaming group. Then using my graphic design wizzery to put it together properly and have it in PDF format. It's a big time commitment so we'll see!

As Nyght pointed out, it's easy to do. A free one month photoshop trial will allow you to play around with it. Tutorial outpost also gives great advice on cutting stuff out.

The secret is to capture the drama, then people don't mind reading through the stat parts. Pictures do really help...a lot. I'm also a fan of the fluff sections, it really enhances the whole sher-bang.

You do a great job DR, your maps and detail are exceptional. I read everyones bat reps, it's good to mix up the styles.

I really like that Campaign thing where it shows the squads, and the movement with the arrows... that gives you a feeling of almost being there, pictures of mini's I end up looking more at the paint jobs :P

Thanks for the tools, it even works on Linux :)

I'm using it right now to build a report about a battle made today. (IG renegade vs Solari Spearhead)

I hope you will enjoy as much as I enjoyed the day. One of my best time with Ravens.
