Right now if you've seen my Battle for black reach posts, this will seem familiar but its all about Landspeeders, the love i have for the speeder has skyrocketed for no apparent reason, and we'll start with possibly the most versatile of all speeders

TYPHOON

The idea i wanted to work on with the Typhoon is that with flying and the operating the missiles seems like a tricky for just one super engineered space marine, now maybe I'm wrong but i kinda feel the workload should be shared, But before all of this i have a gripe with the GW kits, This maybe just a one of (the other landspeeders i have don't have it) but there is a huge miscast in the model. An hour with Green stuff has fixed this. and you'll see the size of this miscast by how much green stuff used.

Image

The whole of that area had to be fixed so that it wouldn't be flying through the sky with a massive hole in its side.

Now back to the sharing part, i decided to have a front mounted heavy bolter operated by the pilot as a little trigger (just like machine guns in planes :D)

Image

so with that done (there was an alteria motive because i snapped the rail the heavy bolter fits on :( ooops :() The heavy bolter is cut roughly a third of the way from the back, and the ammo crate stuck on the side so its a straight feed ammunition..... feed.

The co-pilot now is holding thin air so its important to have something to do, so another ingenious idea from evolved helped me out.

Image

The clear oval is the start of a HUD that the co-pilot will use to target an enemy with the missile launcher. The stand is created by the Ariel that was removed to make space for the heavy bolter. The HUD itself is the clear plastic from a blister!

If you were paying attention you would have seen a few bigger changes and if you didn't *CLAP CLAP, OI*

The first thing that has changed is the position of the TYPHOON missile pods from a vertical position to a horizontal position, This makes the whole landspeeder look smaller in height and sleeker. The conversion was surprisingly simple, put together the pods before any cutting is done, then once you've made them, switch them to the opposite side which they were meant to be. turn the pods so they are horizontal, and cut the curve when it starts to bend, (leaving the shells in tact) this will slide through the hole in the doors, and glue into place. The hardest part is lining it up and once you've done that its done.

The other conversions are better shown from the back.

Image

The top 'fins' are a common theme i want to run throughout my squad, and so easy to do. Take the spoiler, flip it upside down, cut along the angles so you end up with these fins, and then switch them so they fit leaning out from the main body.

The Bottom Fins are designed to make the TYPHOON look more stable and were even easier to create, take the two extra doors (from the normal landspeeder kit which is now included) flip them over. glue the doors so the ridge on the inside is resting at the bottom of the landspeeders wing. Cut off the pipe (the ones that make the door move) cut them off and you have some stabilizers.

So all of this is the conversion corner of the TYPHOON kit. Hope it's given you some idea of what can be done really easily, and without any extra bits.

More coming soon, including two TORNADOS and TWO Landspeeder Storms!

I like your conversion from a GW design style level-> :? to a jaspercation design style level -> 8)

Good use of included parts of a plastic kit is always welcome. :D

Bad to hear GW still has problems with the landspeeder kit. This LS were the reason for me to start to have plastic putty at
hand, because i don't like to mix green stuff to fill some gaps. Plastic putty comes ready to use and hardenes fast so you can
cut off or file off whatever you want to get ONE surface as it should be with the original parts.

Lets wait for the other Landspeeders then. Can't be long, theyre all fast assault, aren't they?

haha i'll be ordering some speeders from my connections soon, so as soon as they arrive, i think i can knock out a converted Tornado (i have a few ideas stolen from this one) in about a day although probably not painted :(

The storm may be a pain and may require a lot more work, but never fear Captain Hacksaw will figure something out.

:!:Be careful "cpt. hacksaw", :!:
I do like how it comes out but you don't need to have "cpt hacksaw part II" as new story for us.

Do we get 1 tornado or some tornado's ?

Awwww Captain hacksaw part 2 is a long way off, i try to avoid using superglue near computer equipment now:D

and i am currently planning for two Tornados, with assualt canons/heavy bolters which should be up soon, or at max 4 tornados with the later two pure tank busting power with multimelta but 2 is the min.

Ha ha, at it again Captain H! Brilliant stuff!

Consider it stolen by the artifcer... heh heh.

I agree, the gunner would operate the missile launcher, while the driver would just point and squirt the heavy bolter.

Genius jasp. Your a converting monster :)

Haha steal away my friend, i'm just a guy with some knives, some superglue and no fear of ruining an £18 model :P so yeah i could be a converting monster, although that might give away the wrong impression, (dont worry i dont have tentacles or one eye so put those bolters away)

Right well back on to the topic in hand, so now i have a typhoon sorted what should i try out next?? go for the easy option or the not so easy option.

Well see for your self as i produce the only picture i have been able to find of the thing.

Image

yip thats right the land speeder storm is my next conversion, and it came to me thinking can you actually make a land speeder storm with the normal landspeeder kit??

So i hmmm'd and ahhhh'd for about 2 seconds and set to cutting the speeder in half, (easier if you do it when its in bitz.) please note im only stating the changes i made i think you can all figure out how to put a speeder together so i wont insult your intelligence.

What you want to do is Cut the speeder in half just before the doors, this will allow you to move the back section further back, whilst you lengthen the passenger bay. Cut along the bottom of the hull just at the end of the pipes, and this should be ok. The only thing you shouldn't cut is the grill piece that leads off from the pilots and gunners legs, You'll need this bit. Get a piece of plasticard i chose a 1mm thick piece but on reflection it might be too thin. stick that the underside of the grill piece i mentioned before and cut it out in the same shape, this will bolster the bottom of that piece. The terrain sensor on the bottom will have to be cut in half, and fixed in place i chose to link them with green stuff but its up to you.

Image

cut the spoiler to get the vertical struts and place those where the steps form the pilot and passanger compartment are meant to go. The steps you can use them later for the passenger compartment as shown.

Image

now the hard bit, place the seats in position to check it fits, you'll have to cut the big tube off the back of it and the vents from the top of it, it'll take ages and may be messy but i cant think of any other way to do it.

Image

Glue the vents to the back portion of the speeder (where they are meant to go) glue the back part of the speeder to the the front and use a bit of spure to act as a roof strut.

Image

So There you have it (well after endless tweaking and greenstuff.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The Normal Speeder pilots are always gonna be a problem, theres not an easy way to get round them unless you do some serious hacksaw work to them, and have other sprues. but as they cant get out (because theirs a fin where their step was) i just figure their pilots nothing else. oh if you want the fins on the back (the recurring theme of my landspeeder force you will need some more land speeder spoilers.

now word of warning, well two, The back end of the landspeeder will be really off balance so try and add some weight to the front or, glue the speeder to the stalk. another way is to use magnets (which i have done) to give it a secure fix but allow them to be taken off the base at the same time, i used 2 rare earth magnets on the stalk and the base of the speeder and they have a 1mm diameter.

2nd word of warning, only try this if you really really like it!!!! i not only cut and glued my fingers about 19 different times, but i have just found something...illuminating

Image

it seems GW have plans for a land speeder storm which has 3 engines. and it does look kinda cool and you'll save yourself alot of effort! But by all means try it out if you have a landspeeder to spare.

Thats it for the minute, But i hope you've liked it!!! untill next time!

Very cool mate, looks the business! Do you have to have scouts at the controls though?? ;)

Love it, really nice conversion. I aint seen anything on GWs version so cant comment.

It needs tidying up but just couldn't let GW out do me :D

Anyways heres some progress reports about the tornados

simple weapon swap like the typhoon conversion, by far the easiest conversion.

There is one final addition to the squad which sadly i didn't make

Image

:D i'll leave it there :D
