>>Hexperax System<<
>>The imperial station – Lone Star<<

Captain Levitas glanced at the intricate Inquisitorial seal on the table and then stared at the lone figure in front of him. Clad in deep crimson armor, emblazoned with intricate silver work and wrapped in a weathered white robe. His craggy features supported piercing blue eyes that conveyed a telling chill, like they could test a man with but a glance. On top his shaved head sat a white wreath which emitted the faint tell tale hum of a personal force field. His build was large, suggesting some sort of augmentation, no doubt expensive. Still he did not match the height of an astartes, even clad in his power amour. But the old inquisitor still posed a formidable figure in the small chamber.

“ I know you Captain, perhaps more evidently than you do yourself. I also know that your displaying the trade mark caution of your chapter. It is understandable”

The Raven Guard captain folded his arms against his ebony armor and sighed. Outside the port he watched adepts and small craft swarm over his cruiser, making irritating but necessary repairs to the Silent Night.

“Inquisitor, I am no zealot Templar eager to follow you into the hands of your enemies. Your seal has no weight with me and my beliefs do not sit with that of your order. The emperor is a visionary and a great leader, but ultimately just a man. I lead my company in defense of humanity. If that is lost then what is there to fight for”

The inquisitor smirked and toyed with the seal before clasping it back onto the chain around his neck.

“Captain, you are either brave or foolish to allow such words in the company of an Imperial Inquisitor. My mistake to consider Captain Solari the wild card of your Chapter.

Indeed, it amuses me that you talk of humanity when you yourself are anything but…human. Whole systems have been laid to waste for less.”

Levitas eyed the grizzled Inqusitor and handed him a data slate.

“On Ansul I was intercepted twice by Imperial forces for attempting to eliminate a traitor manufactorum. No explanation was made.

I have looked into the eyes of the zealous as they follow orders blindly, even against their own. I’ve watched worlds burn for greed and unbridled ambition and I will not be party to such actions.”

“Which is why I chose you Captain. And why I need your company to put things right in this system. There are few who see the reality in these times and who are able to navigate to the truth. To find the true values and stand by them. We are alike you and I…as your Librarian is trying to find out”

The air crackled as the cloak around Librarian Velos failed and his form was revealed. The librarian failing to hide his surprise too.

The old inquisitor smiled and signaled with his hand.

“It’s ok Captain, I have my own insurance.”

Levitas felt the cold point of a weapon at his neck as the lithe figure canceled her camo cloak. The Raven Guard Captain completely taken back that someone had got so close without giving off any signals. He saw her black clad reflection in the star port glass and knew what she was.

“Renegades Captain, as some would call us, but ones that know the truth. Ask yourself what you believe, and maybe we can cut the corruption from this system”

With that Inquisitor Garret and his female companion left the chamber.

Levitas took a breath and contemplated the weight of his rank. There were often times when he felt it crushed him.
