Firstly, Welcome to Sons of Corax forums! Glad to have you here brother :D

Please don't be put off by some of the comments, in a forum, everyone will have differing opinions, you are as free to voice yours as they are to voice theirs. :)

Anyway, Your fluff sounds quite interesting. Perhaps you're playing in the era just after the heresy? But that opens up a lot more discrepancies...like where would the Raven Guard get the numbers to field another company of veterans? Among other things.

It's got potential, but i think it needs some working on. For now, it has quite a case of superman complex. But don't give up, i would like to see more work put into it.

Here's my take on the 10th company. Please let me know if there are any errors or suggestions on improving this list!

Company Goal:
The main goal of 10th co is to move the recruit from basic training into live combat. The secondary function is to transition more experienced space marines into new gear, and to provide combined arms and mechanized training in a hot zone. While the tenth is well suppled with gear and veteran sergeants they have several assets on loan from fellow companies. Ultimately it is the weighty responsiblity of the season drill sergeants of the tenth to get recruits up to speed, to survive and move on to other companies.

Company Composition:

Captain Pendrecki
A student of Captain Shrike, Pendrecki aspires to the noble qualities and strategic abilities of his mentor. He is deeply tied to the people of his homeworld, and feels an intense connection to the recruits in his charge. Resourceful and wily, he works closely with his chaplain and highly skilled techmarine, to scrape together and maintain his company. He has often been suspected of "night time aquisitions" from fellow space marine companies, but is seldom called on it. It is speculated that this is because of the quality of troops coming from his company.

Chaplain Bartok
A staunch observer of the codez and the Emperor, Bartok weeds out those that have the slightest signs of taint. It is his unfortunate duty to cull out any late failures of recruits. He is often at odds with the Captain on matters of strict adherance to rules, and is somewhat bemused with his Captains reverence for the esteemed Shrike. He puts this aside for the troops in need of his "encouragement."

Techmarine Cage
Cage is a highly skilled Techmarine, bordering on the rank of Motf. He has no stomach (literally) for the politics of his order, and is stuck in tenth company as a penance for not achieving rank. Those above him are split as to wether he is stealing his knowledge or if he is blessed by his severe, austere, and deep piety for the omnisiah. Regardless, Cage is a natural tinkerer and his hacks are sometimes all that keeps the training program alive.

The esteemed and valorus Brother Charon and Brother Cerberus, dreadnoughts
Both dreadnoughts are displaced from fellow companies, and are on loan until further notice. There has been no official word as to where they came from, but from what Cage gets from them in machine speak, they like their current assignment.

The destructive, warforged, and resilent Sergeant Johnson, and his team of 4 terminators
On loan from 1st company, they have been temporarily reassigned to the tenth to provide crosstraining with heavier units. Although Johnson has been requested to be returned, it seems that redtape keeps him where he is. Also as mysterious is Johnson's desire to remain in the tenth where he likes it best. Rumor has it, no oe wants to argue with a guy in terminator armor.

Scout Sergeant Palestrina, his 4 mixed type squads of scouts, and scout bike squad
Palestrini is the paragon of the scout and exemplar of all the good qualities of the Raven Guard. Vigilant, strict but fair, with the keenest eye for detail. His marksmanship and stealth are renowned. His thorough understanding of small arms, and vehicles has gained him an unusually good friendship with Techmarine Cage. They spend much time trying to get his 10 bikes all fully functional, at one time. It is rumored that noone has ever seen Palestrini sleep.

Sergeant Dutileux and his 2 squads of assault marines
Ever angry, ever enduring Dutileux watches over the first trembling flights of fledging assault marines. Flying ceramite and knuckleheaded new guys are always bad news for him. Luckily, Captain Pendrecki is often available for extra finesse. Finesse ussually implys the application of force to said new guys backside. This coupled with live fire excercised performed by Sgt. Palestrina generally instills confidence in the new flyer. After a few incidences of flight fatalities, Chaplain Batork had a long talk with the assual sergeant. Dutileux in disgust was forced to admit that a strict adherance to a "helmets on, visors down" approach would reduce the loss of transitioning tactical marines. He however has no illusions as to how vitally important his task of providing the chapter with assualt marines is. He also never wears a helmet. He says it "interferes with the swing of my power axe."

Sergeant Stravinsky, and his perpetually understrength devastator squad
For reasons blatant to all but stravinsky himself, he gets few "volunteers" to fire large ordinance. There is a surprisingly high number of screwups in his squad, and consequently, many training accidents. The few that make it, live on to be revered tank killers.

Sergeant Lutoslawski, and his two squads of tactical marines
Perpetually monotone, calm, and observant, Lutoslawski is a cold blooded killer. Many a transitioning scout has wished to be away from his calculating gaze. For many months the soldier is subjected to rigorous inspection, interviews with the Chaplain, and stark, cold combat. A recruit succesfully running this hellish gauntlet earns his armor, and the right to move on to brother comapanies of the Raven Gaurd.

Additional Assets
Rhino "Eroica"
Rhino/Razorback "St. Luke's Passion"

Drop pod "Firebird"
Drop pod "Petroushka"
Drop Pod "Threnody"
Drop pod "Magnificat"

I don't know if he was your inspiration or not, Pen, but the idea of Sergeant Johnson from Halo wearing a suit of Terminator Armour is a scary idea!

Awesome, thanks guys, sorry for the typos it was really late when I wrote this and forgot to use spellcheck.

Hey Nemesis... actually I used Johnson to be an american sounding name against the more russian and east german sounding ones I used for the guys inside the company. But... I love your idea and will paint Sergeant Johnson to look like the guy from halo. Thanks for the idea. It should work out because his gene seed will be from another chapter.

So hope this doesn't kill my fluff, but all the guys from my version of the 10th are named after obscure/semi obscure composers. Pendrecki was an atonal genius and Bartok was a late romanticist that used his countries native folksongs in complex and beautiful structures. The vehicles are actual compositions, Eroica for instance was named after Beethoven's 3rd sympony, which he originally (but later in disgust, recanted on) dedicated to Napoleon!

So my terminators are Americans/american like (roughly) haven't figured out their paint scheme yet...

and the dreadnoughts are from greek (I think) mythos, Charon, ferryman of the dead across the river styx, and Cerberus, well, a three headed dog. I'll need to figure out how to paint them too.

These entries were designed to set these units aside from the rest of the company.

Hope this isn't a thrillkill...

Pen

@AceS

In WD no 276, GW published things on the 2nd company. Its Captain is Aajz Solari.
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/inde ... rticle=316

I made searches on him because I use him in my army.

So feel free to use 2nd of course, but be aware that it could be a bit unfluffy to change its Captain name.
(but eh, that's not very crucial, again feel free :) ).

I'll try to write something about Aajz's background, also.

Ok heres my fluff
for the night spectres 2nd company.

The Night Spectres are a newly founded successor chapter of the Raven Guard created to assist their battle brothers in keeping the eastern fringe in Imperial hands.

Homeworld

The Night Spectres are a crusading chapter and rarely gather in one place for very long althougth every year the representives of the chapter will return to Crimea to recruit new initiates and to observe the feast of the fallen, where lost battle brothers are remembered and to decide wich scouts will be elevated to full space marines.

Crimea itself is a mountainous world where the local population live in tribal societys constantly fighting each other over the scarce resources to be found. It is seen as a great honour for a tribe to have one of its members to join the "Shadows that stalk the Night" as the marines are known to the locals after the way that the chaplains of the chapter only take those chosen at the darkest times and then they are never seen again.

Combat Doctrine

The Night Specters very rarely engage in stand up fights and adopt hit and run guerilla warfare tactics where a space marines biologically enhanced abilities give them a edge over their enemies. However they are space marines and defenders of mankind and have been employed in static defences and proved to be just as effective as other chapters like the imperial fists.

Although they are a codex chapter Night Spectre commanders are encouraged to "think outside of the box" and to come up with alternative tactics. This has brought them into arguments with moreorthodox chapters like the Ultramarines who see them as wild and impetious.

Notable engagements

The Battle for Holdfast Hive

The Night Spectres were called upon to assist the Ultramarines 2nd company in the defence of the biggest hive on the planet(????). The chapter sent two companies to assist, the 2nd and 3rd, under the command of newly promoted Capt Mathias.
For Mathias it was a chance to prove himself the equal of the more experienced commanders and for the people of Holdfast Hive it was hope.

Mathias quickly and efficiently deployed the 3rd company to to assist the beleaguered Ultramarines and then took his own 2nd company off to take the fight to the enemy sriking at anything that would disrupt the enemys plans. For weeks the 2nd attacked vital supply dumps and assasinated the officers of the trator guard. The attackers, desperate to break the seige, made one last gamble. They sent thier super heavys to the front line the Baneblade "Thunder Child" and the Shadow sword "Behemoth". Little did they realise this would end up as their worst defeat as Mathias and the second ambushed the armoured column destroying them and capturing the super heavys. With the war machines in imperial hands and Mathias and his men ambushing any patrols that tried to reach the front line the fight quickly fell out of the enemy and they surrendered ending the seige.

Anyway there you go hope you enjoy it! I actually enjoyed writing like this and i dont think its b ad for a first attempt although any critism is more than welcome. Thanks and enjoy.

Hey This is all sweet. I will add some for mine, although I only have a little bit. It may not be in any order either.

Chapter: Magma Ravens
Chapter Iconography: traditional raven guard raven, rising from ashes and fire, three stars over head
Home Planet: n/a mobile command frigate
Chapter Strength: 124 full brothers and 40 recruits in training
Favored Tactics: overwhelming surprise attacks, long range combat, hit and run

The Magma Ravens were created from the Raven Guard in the 43rd founding, and were needed immediately to quell a growing ork waaagh to the galactic southeast of segmentum solar. Of all the chapters in the founding, none were as proud and vain as the Magma Ravens. In training prior to the christening of the chapter, the marines that would go on to become Magma Ravens outperformed every other potential chapter in the founding. They had the best ambushes, the best firepower, the most skill, and had the vanity that went with it. After the founding, on the maiden voyage of the combined might of the chapter, a freak disturbance in the warp resulted in the fleet colliding with a space hulk full of warring tyranids and orks. Caught off guard and unprepared, the Magma Ravens were nearly wiped out. All the combat against fellow Marines had not prepared them for close quarters fighting, and losses were high. The only units to survive more that 15 minutes were the 1st and 10th companies, who were able to make a mad scramble for the equipment bays. While the veterans held off whatever monstrosities now wandered the battle barge, the scouts grabbed all the equipment and vehicles they could load onto thunderhawks and then fled from the overrun ship, taking less than 100 of the original 1000 strong chapter. With the emergency drop out of warp-space, many more perished, and the thunderhawk carrying the personal equipment was destroyed. Several veterans were so damaged they had to be placed into dreadnaughts. The worst blow came when the Magma Ravens realized their geneseed had been corrupted, and now no longer turbocharged their muscle growth. This left the chapter broken, and their vain pride was replaced by sadness, anger, and a firm committment to never vaunt thier abilities again. All battle brothers wear helmets to battle, and when out of armor, veil thier faces to hide their shame.

The Chapter needed equipment, equipment it did not have anymore. When the few thinderhawks from the battle barge wild-dropped out of the warp, they were scattered near the Salamanders homeworld of Nocturne. They discovered that a frigate, several drop pods, and many battle brothers had escaped their doom and regrouped and headed to Nocturne. The Salamanders were puzzled by the new space marines and their mourning, but noticed quickly that wherever they went, the emeror's light withdrew, and the spirit of the omnissiah went quiet. They gave the Magma Ravens only a few weapons and sent them on thier way.

The Chapter Master, so overcome with shame and regret, had his own name removed from all records, and kept only his rank, vowing to rebuild the chapter that he had neglected. It was the consensus of the chapter that they had neglected the emperor, and that he had punished them for their sin. Now humbled, and required to beg for mere bolter rounds from other chapters, the Magma Ravens have begun to purify themselves, and have turned to the Ecclesiarchy and it's teachings to compensate for their error. This has resulted in some of the most devout Space Marines, and strong ties to the Eccesiarchy. The Chapter Master took upon himself the name of Pridefall, to commemorate when he led his chapter foolishly from the emperor's protection and to their deaths. Every leader among the Magma Ravens is expected to be able to sermonize on the virtues of the emperor for many hours, and inspire those around them to great and honorable service in his name. This has made some of the best chaplains in all the imperium. The spirit of the omnissiah was not forgotten either. With the great punishment came a withdrawal of the machine spirit from the chapter. Their tanks and transports became almost useless, and sore repentance was required at the hands of the techpriests before the chapter armory began to function to a bare degree.

The Magma Ravens now maintian close ties with the Ecclesiarchy, the Mechanicum, and the Inquisition, so as to keep an extra eye on themselves and see that no pride enters their hearts again. The Mechanicum sent one Brother Barotein, a gifted techpriest, to teach and instruct a new set of techmarines for the chapter. From the Inquisition, a Grey Knight Master Psyker was sent to keep watch over the chapter and train the new incoming psykers. The Ecclesiarchy was impressed by the willingness of these Space Marines to learn of the god-emperor, and marveled at their newfound faith. After Lord Pridefall's grand speech on the greatness of the emperor to the ecclesiarchial council on Estebara IV, the council awarded the Magma Ravens several consecrated heavy flamers, and pledged to keep the Magma Ravens in their prayers to the emperor.

Only when Lord Pridefall had tried to restore his chapter's command positions did he dare approach the Ultramarines of McCragge. Advice was needed, advice on how to follow the Codex Astartes with such a small chapter. Who better to speak of Guilliman than his successor, Marneus Calgar. What Lords Pridefall and Calgar discussed, is not recorded anywhere but in their minds. What is known is that Lord Pridefall walked from the citadel of the Ultramarines with a smile on his face, the first since the devastation, and that he came with a relic tome, a genuine Codex Astartes from the time of the Heresy, with an addendum by Lord Calgar on small chapter warfare. Once on board the command frigate, and seeing the chapter sufficiently humbled, cleansed, and prepared, he ordered his men and set out once again to face the orks originally responsible for the chapter's creation, and this time they were ready.
