I thought I had posted this once before so please forgive me if its somewhere else but I really can't find it.

In the new planetstrike expansion you can take an army with no troops as the attacker. This means a necron player can take an army that only has one model (Necron Lord) with the necron special rule. Does this mean that if you kill the lord the whole army phases out?

I don't play necrons but i do own all of the codices and this question seems like an interesting one.

yes :o

But he could also take a C'Tan as HQ and fill up with
other "non-necron" units . Never Phase out

So maybe:
-nightbringer
-pariah
-scarabs
-Monolith

Sounds unbalanced, also no WBB.

Whos Cpt angelo ? ( the blood raven of blood one? )

Oh and to return to attacker:

1x Ctan ( smites everything)
10x pariah ( nerfs psykers and smites bunkers )
3x DS Monoliths ( the resilient and fire support )
6x 10 scarab-swarms also DS ( swarming over you )

must get this idea out of my head .. now... :(

Actually, its probably easier to argue that in doing this, you'd lose as soon as the game began. I don't think there any rules in planet strike that allow you to bypass phase out, so by taking no necrons with the necron rule, your total is zero. 25% of zero is also zero, so as soon as you start your at the phase out limit and the rest of your army would vanish before anything could be done, and then you would lose.

Of course, I doubt your likely to meet Necron players who actually try to play like that.

So 0 - 75% of 0 = 0 or just dont lose any model of some non-existant models.

How can you lose what is not there?
The funny part of it

Seriously you would always field models with the "necron" rule since your only troop choice says so.
Normally a necron player would care to field enough "necrons", but why not try some DS-fun with hordes of scarabs?
Cheap, DS and assault....

Planet strike is designed for that kind of imbalance. As said before it is ment for fun, and so has an open door to abuse.

One guy at my store covered the board in dangerous area terrain and nominated his objectives as a tree.

*sigh*
I've encountered a similar opponent. Rather unsporting of him, but there is little you can do beyond throwing rhinos through the terrain and hoping they dont go pop.

Tree fight?

- first thought : kroot or catachans
- then decided this deserves Vindicators. Lots of vindicators. Wait, can't have many?
- changed to : IG artillery company. Just shell his terrain until it becomes craters...
- use flyers? a marauder squadron to wreck the fortress....
- if all else fails, change sides 8) Now be as sportman-like to him as he was...

BTW.... 1500 :o

Yea this particular situation scares the crap outta me. The C'tan occured to me right after i posted. Problem is I know a necron player that would use this strategy without any remorse at all if he ever thought of it. I'm flat out beating him already.

So no one really has any idea on how it would work? Is this the sort of thing I should ask of GW?

unless faqs are released often GW wont have the answer. It cant hurt to ask but dont get your hopes up.

Id say that the trick would fly. there are zero necron units, therefore you cant be reduced to 25% necron units.

Not to worry though, outside of a Ctan or monolith spam, ill have to say that the necron codex is still very weak.

If your opponent wants to play that card, hes going to have to trade his WBB rolls.

If thats the case, just table him. The Necron codex(arguably one of the weakest in the game right now) has bigger pit falls than phase-out.

Just be sure youve got a plan for the Ctan, wether that be focusing him with ranged firepower or avoiding/throwing small sacrificial units in his way. Either way, you need to prepare for one, at least have some battle plan in your head - or else you'll make an error in deployment/play with a scattered head and actually let the Ctan do damage.

Speaking from experience, id recommend the latter.
