hi all. Im sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, wasnt sure where to put it. I am only new to the RG; so far only have been playing for about 3 months. I want to get a group of vet jump pack ppls and put lightning claws on them for shrikes wing. I have no issues with buying the vet vanguard pack but where the hell can i get the lightning claws from to put on them?? Ive seen on forgeworld that there are terminator claws you can buy.. but thatll just look weird. any tips or general advive would be awsomely kool.
thanks :)

Hi Demon,

Since the release of the 5th edition codex, Shrike's Wing has been removed from the codex. The only way to make such a unit would be to create a Vanguard Veteran squad and equip them all with Lightning Claws. IIRC, this was covered in a different thread and we calculated the cost of such a unit seriously out-weighed their potential on the table.

If you really want to make up a 'Shrike's Wing' from Vanguard Veterans, then you're stuck with two options.

The first is the Veteran with Twin-Lightning Claws. He can be bought separately from GW's website for something like £6 and use the Lightning Claws from that model on another (such as the Vanguard models). You'll naturally need 5 of this veteran in order to get enough claws for 5 'Shrike's Wing'.

The other option is to buy a box of Assault Terminators and use the Lightning Claws from that box. You can either cut them at the wrist and attach to regular Power Armour arms, or cut the shoulder section away so a Power Armour shoulder pad will fit over the top.

I've used all three methods, and all three look great with a little work.

WR. Jaspercation is the resident conversion guru around these parts, so he'll quite possibly pick up this thread and give you more advice.

If you have any more problems, questions or what/not, feel free to throw up a post =)

Cheers,

CR.

PS. I reckon you found the best place to post this thread, so dont worry about that ;)

Yea ive read the 5th codex and am aware of that. ... I do however want to build the full chapter of RG and having a bodyguard type wing for shrike I think will look great. Im not too fussed bout points value cause by the time im finished Ill play apocolypse which is like massive points isnt it??

Assault terminators LC have my preference, as often you use much more TH/SS than LC, there is no waste.

Hi.

1) use less slang and we may not use abbrevations as answers. :P

2) New source : space wolf pack. The greyhunter/bloodclaw special 10 men troops box has power-armor
lightning claws.

3) Assaultmarines would be cheaper but need more pimping to look like veterans.
Could also be a misconception to view any veteran as walking christmas tree.......
I think if the squad is clearly a dedicated bodyguard in appearance, why should they not stick with
only a few markings?

I quite like the idea of being a guru :P *sits in the corner and meditates*

Lighning claws are a pain to get hold tbh mate, If you dont want to buy an assualt terminators squad and equip them all with thunder hammers and storm shields then you'll still be needing some more.

Not too sure about the value of the wolf pack (as a boxset for your needs) but the lighning claws provided dont need any work whatsoever. Have a look through some bits sites, such as www.Bitzbox.co.uk or www.bitsandkits.co.uk

These guys are good and the best place to get lightning claws if you dont want to fork out for them.

Now word of warning, the terminator lightning claws will be too chunky to just apply straight to a marine, (i'd suggest a normal assualt marine as it will be easier to position and glue,) as twin lighning claws can only be taken by vanguards you wont need too much more bling to make them suit the look, plus i doubt corax was wondering around with a giant clock around his neck :D

So back to the termy claws, try to find power armoured arms that match roughly the angling of the terminator lightning claws, once you have matched them up, its time to get converting. Cut off the hand from the power armoured arms, leaving the cuff intact. Then carefully cut through the terminator arm at the wrist, and if possible keep the cables intact aswell.

Cut off the Terminator shoulder pad leaving you with the claw and the cabling (hopefully) in one piece and the terminator arm seperate. Position the arm loosely, and then drill or carve a hole into the claw the same size as the cuff of the power armour, this isn't really necessarry but i think it provides a much snugger and flowing look. Replace the power armoured arm and it should (after some tweaking) fit right in.

Curl the cable around the arm, and up to the shoulder joint, add a shoulder pad and glue the cabling to that at the bottom corner.

Thats the best way i have found and gives the best look (IMO). Theirs nothing worse then having a space marine with gorilla arms :P

good luck with the project and i hope to see some pics soon :D
