I am glad to join this site. I started playing about 3 years ago. A friend at work got me started. I started with Necrons which were okay but lacked the ability to customize much. I then got into Sisters of Battle, nuns with guns. A very fun army to play and some beautiful models. Since I only play a few friends I was feeling the need for a new army to change things up.

I thought of Space marines. I was originally going to play salamanders or a varient. Vulcan works so well with sisters. But then I got to thinking, Necrons is a shooting army, SOB is a shooty army I wanted something different. So I started looking at the different backgrounds because I like for my armires to be fluffy but still competetive. A straight forward assault army like Blood angels or black templar didn't appeal to me

Then I read the RG background. striking from shadows, mysterious, using just the right force applied to key units. This has a lot of chances to be tactical while I am ripping peoples faces off. So here I am. I am probably going with Raptors as I have a hard time with black power armor and I did buy a few greens for my salamanders.

Hey BrothrR! Well met!

Enjoy your stay here... the tacticas are super informative and also give insight into how RG units can work, be competitive, and be fluffy too. The librarium is very cool too, with lots of us writing up heaps about our individual compamies and sister units.

There's lots of painting black advice and everybody seems to have their own way of doing things. ...so if you are thinking you'd like to do RG, don't be intimidated. This is not to say that the raptors don't rock, too!

My first army was Renegade Tau (Tau and Kroot living together, low-tech cannibalistic madness) and was Ivory with cadmian red highlights. It was a nightmare. Sometimes it looked like I painted my minis with chalk crumbles! So, I guess I relate to your issue...
