I've been told that 28mm is roughly equivalent to 1/48th scale, was contemplating taking regular scouts and building a 10 man unit in gille suits and sniper rifles. I haven't decided to go with uber modern flashy snipers or oldschool m14's or what not.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have some pics of them ? :)

Nice idea anyway. I'd go with the modern ones !

Modern ones all the way and seconded on the pics. What are you planning on using for the gillie suits?

the scale for GW is "heroic" 28mm, basically a made up scale, and whilst all miniatures are 28mm, they are porpotioned differently to other sculpts of the same scale. Its a nice little thing that GW do to stop you using other ranges minatures if you want to add "variety, beyond the GW bits" into your army.as they will look completely out of place.

If you do the whole army using different minis from another range and n a way where all of the units are clearly identifiable and dont clash ( i'e not having the same models doing different types of roles) then i can't see anything wrong, however dont expect to take it to any GW official tourneys.

For your purposes though, and if your just swapping the weapons around etc then you shouldn't encounter too much of a problem, though they may be a little bit on the small side)

Hope this helps, i would have to say modern as i love the Barrett .50 cal and cant wait to see them.

I'm not sure yet, gathering parts. Seems that there are a lot of discrepencies in scale... the most commonly quoted is 1/48 scale. I'll write back once I get some torso and legs bits. Hey Jasp! Yeah I get the heroic thing... the more I look the more I see porportional problems in the models, as well as cross model scale differences. But you know even the "david" has huge issues with porportion, thats why its high art right?

BTW combining left over bits from a few scout bikes, I'm buying some bitz fro a left over ls storm kit just METAMORPHIC KOALA! legs and torsos you can double the number of your troops.

I'm going to get the Gillie suits together somehow, its just too darn cool of an idea.

I love the barret! A friend of mine fires one all the time. Theres a new rifle coming out chambered in .4 (something) that is accurate over a mile and is actually pretty accurate compared to a bolt action. Able to drop a target a second! Crazy!

Um, wierd, metamorphic koala got posted in my post, I didn't put it there... strange.... Its a bummer about the tournies being so close minded about parts etc. If the core model is essentially GW, then why not? The best models are individualised, ya know? Anyways... its okay and its an old arguement.

I don't know about participating in that stuff anyways. For me its about playing not winning.

oh i have no complaints about the GW minis and their proportions its what makes the minis look great most of the time, just thought i'd warn you about real life 28mm is different and its a trap many, including myself have found out to their cost

most GW tournaments will let off a single individual character, or a heavily converted piece, but obviously it is their tournaments and so they want to showcase their minis.

PS. The Metamorphic koala was added by SoC, its a rudimentary language filter and so may have change something into that. think its originally designed to cover up expletives but can sometimes just get mixed up :)

Yep. and so it begins... the sleepless nights, epoxied fingers, gently rocking while swearing, concept ruination and ultimate disapointment.

I ebayed 11 scout torso/leg sets today.

Thats all I need to make up another 1/2 squad of ccw and bp and 6 snipers to go with telion and a missle launcher guy.

Also purchased some 1/35 scale infantry weapons. The scale thing is really bugging. but I get it to. I agree with ya Jasp, its cool, I get it, but everything is WAY(!) out of porportion. The weapons are slighlty lunger but nearly 3 times bulkier than in real life. It really brought it home when I chatted with a guy at the hobby shop and he put a wwi tank commander next to a space marine. whoa!

As a side note I got the relic blade chapter champion bit sprue to make a rg Khan figure, too.

I can imagine what I wrote that was a swear word, but thats dang funny! In the Army we (after a lot of classes in political correctness issues) would use "God Bless America" as an alternative to swearing. Nothing funnier than Top screaming "God Bless America" in church.

To make a long story short, I'm going to accept that this might not work... but try anyway.
