Cant show you pics, since my cam didnt work. May find some links for you.

So went there and...

wondered where the big PS battle is hidden.
Cant find it. Only smallish gaming tables. :(

ok, they had a lot of planetstrike models spread over the tables.
also hordes of stompas and some baneblades. Sadly nothing useful since those strategic geniuses placed them on standard tables....
Valks and marines and chaos and eldar and....wait. Orks. multitudes of them.

Payloads of orks.

Fantasy wasnt strong there, had just lizardmen vs elfs (beachhead) and lizardmen vs demons.
Wotr/lotr got 3 tables, 1x osgiliath, 1x moria and a wotr?

Models were all nice so moved on to the painting comp.
I think you'll find some pics of those at GW-site or later on several german sites/blogs.
Sorry, no cam. I know you like the shiny things....

This time, D.abnett was there to sign some books and i was surprised to see them not only selling BL but also translated BL
stuff. Seemed to go well, when i left their mounts have been reduced to a few copies.

Second interesting thing was FW. Where are the customers? Midday, was crowded as usual but 2 hours later there was free access to them. :?

Now, the big dissapointment.

Normally, one would expect a company to promote new stuff.
Last GD, they had a DoW trailer running every 15 min.
This GD, only pics shot by staffers right at the tables.
Do i need to look at other customers or models i've already seen ?????

But there was also the "dungeon".
Place of their licensed partners. So the 40k RPG was there plus some bloodbowl/PCs.
Seemed ok for those interested in those games.
Didnt hang around much there.

Thougth the really fascinating stuff is where the designers are.

Next surprise.
Photos werent forbidden. So many folks shot what they found.
On a closer look, it became obvious why.
Those models ( greens, painted ) were all well known. Nothing new to see.

Since i believe you dont need to know the old news, lets get to the actual models.

- FW chaos reaver. Stood there, was also explained if asked for.
- FW ork bitz. All the recently shown new upgrades.
- FW Elysian Valk "passengers".
- IG Harker and straken, pure and painted. I recomend to get them. ( september)
- Azhag ( fantasy orkz )

And finally MR kelly.

- SW cover backing him up, and left alone, he answered many questions so forgive me if i cant remember all the answers.

- SW cover is the WD cover. Should have 96 pages. Good for russ boys.
- SW concept is a heroic / superstitious one.
- this implies many fluffy things on the model. ( pelts, necklaces, talismans)
- the heroic part means they get flexible builds for their leaders and wolfguard. But with a price in points.
as PK desribed it, you can equip them like a rpg party. So one may carry LCs, other Chainfist, other powerweapon,....
even different armor is available, not all must wield PA or TDA. Still these veterans may be distributed to squads,
so its possible to buy Termie armor + a cyclone and add him to the long-fangs.
-Thus makes SW an elitist built. But you dont have to. Your choice if you go nuts and play a 15 model army...
-Wolves are in it, seemed it is rather a cyber.. wolf thing than just something taken from fenris.
-the asscannon- tank may not come

Focus was on the hero thing in most conversations.

Got for the model part still one nice bit: the wolfpack provides you with all your needs.
Includes: 30 heads, enough for every type of SW, several wolfy bodies or body parts. Some wolfied weapons.

Not placing a watchdog works fine for the fan-crowd. :D

A link to pics. ( be warned german site )

Thanks for the report, I either missed gday in los angeles or there just plain wasn't one this year, so I'm a little jealous. Turn out to 2008 was really low here. I felt really bad that a city so huge, had so few to show. The thing is, its a 2 way street, in that we have to show enthusiasm for the hobby and they need to give us something to be excited about. Its a business for them, so I get it, but that means they have to dig deeper and do better, not get into some wierd defensive posture with nothing new or cool coming out.

I'm still reading through Abnett's Ravenor, after plowing through Eisenhorn, so I'd love to get a chance to thank him for his awesome contributions.

I'm really excited about ths space wolves, and it would be fun to have a smallish elite army, but I need to finish my RG work first before moving on to allies...

Good show Fhad.

I had heard that there was nothing new about the wolves (booo!) This time last year we had almost every shred from C:SM. So i have to tip my hat to GW for keeping the doors fairly shut.

I suspected wolves would be super powerful but super expensive. Will suit me fine as the less to paint the better!

Space hulk also looks nice, but a bit too Blood Angels to appeal to the mass market of marine players.

Well, I guess we'll see if UK GD brings anything juicy.
