GAME 1

vs Salamander Successor (both)
Vulkan
librarian (null zone, smite)
4 10 man tactical squads (meltas, MM)
3 squads of 3 land speeders (multi meltas)

Scenario - take and hold - spearhead
Special rule - 'power of the warp' - one unit each turn can be removed and placed via deepstrike (a-la-gate
)

They set up and we stole the initiative - which would seemingly wrong foot them the whole game. We left my five man tac and a ten man BA tac holding our objective, while we sent empty rhinos and two occupied rhinos forward. They set up in combat squads and put several in reserve. Captain levitas infiltrated and the sternguard podded in on turn 1 to suppress the nearest unit to levitas target. It was messy, Captain levitas and his 10 man assault took out all but one marine in the ten man tac, while the sterns vaped a tac with vengeance rounds. The Death company (DC) hurled forward and managed to catch a squad of speeders in combat.

Vulkan and librarian, along with tac squad took out sterns with massed fire, while the speeders (all 9) seemed cagey and held back away from the vindis. happy to snipe at death company and BA honour guard.

But this game was to be owned by Captain levitas. He and the 10 man squad continued to roll up the left flank towards the objective. Along the way he took out vulkan and his squad, although the honour of taking out Vulkan went to sgt Rokh and his not so master-crafted hammer (heh, heh). They ran through 25 marines and 2 hqs as they pumped their reserves into his path too. The BA and the rest of the raven guard had aerial battles with the speeders while the rhinos rushed forward. By turn 5 it was all over - tabled. Massacre Win for us.

GAME 2

vs Orks & Chaos Marines
Ghazgul Thraka
Nobz mob in truck
Boys in truck
3 scorchas
9 killa kans in 3 mobs

DP - lash
4 chaos marine squads (all five man in rhinos with combis)
3 chosen squads (all five man in rhinos with combis)

Scenario - Anihilation - pitched
Special rule - 'weakest link' - Secretly pick 1 of your opponents and only their units will hold scoring points
.

Well, this was the tough one. And the scenario didn't make it easy at all. We picked the chaos player has he had 14 points up for grabs. I told my team mate they would go for my raven guard, which they did. (!)

We castled while the chaos hid behind the orks. His 3 chosen squads flanked along with my Captain levitas and assault squad. On turn 1 the sterns dropped into the lions den and opened up double tap plasmas on the DP, who amusingly failed 4 cover saves and was toast. Nice start but it would be uphill. We maybe stopped a few kans while bote vindi shots missed.

Then they came. The orks poured forward while the chaos lingered behind. We had maybe 1 turn of shooting before the orks hit our lines. The turn only stopped a truk and another kan. While 2 of the chosen rhinos appeared on our right flank. Captain levitas and his squad came up behind the rhinos as they flanked, wrecking one, and taking the weapons and immobilizing the second.

Their turn they took out the drop pod and sterns, then ghazgul swatted a vindi while the nobs took out a second. The chaos also wrecked a rhino with combi meltas. Captain levitas was charged by the chosen, a combat that would last a few turns but end in a raven guard victory, claiming 4 points and yet more to the Captains personal tally.

The BA held off the orks as much as they could, the DC swarming over ghazgul and taking him out (although at the loss of the squad) The Honour guard held of the many kans, but the nobs made it through and took out my five man tac squad.

It actually ended quite close at 7 points for them and 5 for us.It wasn't a great game, we just didn't have the tools and we should have played smarter. But it was only a minor loss so wouldn't greatly dent our chances.(they would also go on to win it)

GAME 3

vs Ultrmarines & Dark Angels
Vulkan (counts as)
3 Tactical squads (las cannons & melta, sgts power weapons)
2 dev squads (10 man with 4 heavy bolters in each)

Belial (lightning claws)
3 termie squads (5 man assault cannons)
2 bike squads (meltas power fist)

Scenario - seize ground (2 each) - dawn of war
Special rule - 1 team mate may fully deploy while the other comes on turn 1.

Over confidence was rife in us both in this one, facing an ultramarine gunline and a bike/termie laden DA force. We got off to a rocket start, with the BA wiping out both bike squads with Honour guard fire and furious DC combat. They holed up their objectives with a 30 man force in a building, 2 full devs and a tac squad. The sterns dropped and wiped out all of Belials 5 man terminator squad leaving the DA captain alone and a bit angry.

The heavy bolters from the devs began to whittle down the BA jumpers while Belial took out 3 sterns, the 2 survivors breaking to live and fire back at him next round. The termies near their second objective began a battle with the DC and honour guard along with Vulkan. It would prove a big bite for the BA and there wasnt much left on either side when the smoke cleared.

My flanking captain and assault squad had a tough task to flush the 30 man building. A bad fleet roll ensured they got shot and charged by a squad of termies. But captain levitas was white hot and took them out. Then he jumped the building and charged the tacs on the ground, pulling their higher placed squad members down into the melee. They then sent one dev squad to try and halt the captains rampage, but the dice were good to me and Captain Levitas won by one, then both tac and dev broke and he wiped them out!The 10 man assault squad was gone, but he still had full wounds and was well within range to strike at the termies holding their other objective.

End game and we over stretched by having low troops, a lucky lascannon opening a rhino and then heavy bolter from the devs taking out comabt tac inside. The BA had also suffered lots of casualties and 2 men from the original ten tried to hold off the last termie squad. We had 1 definate objective, 1 other we could hold. They had 1 held by a tac squad in the building and the other hotly contested by their last terminator squad and 3 tacs.

The termies went to ground as vindi fire poured in, leaving one who was charged and dispatched by Captain levitas. The other vindi then sped to deny them their 1 objective. Belial was cut down by the last two sternguard, while 2 lone BA tacs moved to take a 3rd objective. We held 3 objectives to their 0.

A major win would have seen us take the tournament, but they had proved resilient in the finla turns. Grr.

FINAL OUTCOME

A result on another table pushed us out of second as they tabled their opponents to our major victory. A few points in it meant we got 3rd. The orks and chaos who we faced second game battled with a fully mech eldar and walkers list to top the table. We got the coveted best painted award though.

Great day and lots of fun. My BA team mate was superb and we had great understanding. Indeed it was the fast and the furious. But the day went to Captain Levitas, who clocked up a whopping 55 marines, 10 terminators, 2 HQ kills over 3 games - and didn't loose a single wound. For those that want to know why then check out my Shrike tactica ;)

The Blood Angels are still very formidable, one opponent joking that there weren't many rules the Death company dont have. They were relied upon to cause carnage at what ever they hit.Pulling apart the mighty ghazgul was a joy.

Bonus unit was the sternguard, who proved a valuable distraction and took down a DP in one slavo and a major character next game.

Fun stuff!

DP in one slavo

hehe glad to hear the sterns are working well!
Im starting to think that with guard incomming and the abuse of coversaves, the 30" ammo and the dragonfire rounds will be really useful. Sterns will become very valuable soon.

what a strange sallies list with 9 speeders...

lash + orks sounds absolutely terrifying... getting pulled towards 9 killa kans :X

Captain levitas racked up quite the tally... excellent!

would love to see an army pic of the combined BA+RG team if you guys took one

Congrats on a good tournament result Levitas, sounds like it was a lot of fun! Reading of the exploits of your Sternguard has caused me to give further thought to a potential revision of my own list (easy enough when you haven't started purchasing/painting just yet)... I'm going to continue to mull this over. Thanks for the post!

3rd isn't bad :)

Your BA teammate used the WD dex?
Happy with it or is it a disadvantage?

Since you said "best painted", where are the pics

We didnt take pics but will see if I can get a group shot :) There was pics of the tournament so will try get those too.

Yes the sterns did their job of distracting very well, but in 2 games they were all down by turn 2. As for taking out the DP it was a long shot blatant suicide tactic, but as earthen points out - we just had too, or he would have pulled us into the kans. The guy took it in good spirits,as I doubt it happens often.

The sterns ammo came in useful in the last game for sure with the hellfire and kraken rounds.

But above all the tourny showed jut how great the Shrike rules are when properly used.

Fhad, yup he used the WD dex. hes been using BA since 2nd ed so knows the ins and outs. Did stress that he missed Corbulos bubble of firece charge, but the DA were just nasty. I forgot to say that when they pulled down gazgul he had just issued the waaagh : / they also mugged several killa kans.

Love doubles tournies, if you get the chance go for it, tons of fun.
