This little question started on another thread and kind of took over, so here is the full, clear question :-

A Marine with 2 base attacks, a bolt pistol, power weapon and boltgun. How many attacks does he get on the charge? 3? 4?

I personally believe this marine would have 3 attacks on the charge, as the boltgun does not allow the marine to gain the bonus attack for 2CCW's, even though he has them (2handed weapon and all that).

Drag out the RAW lawyers and codices to hand then place your bets!

Ah, this cropped up at my store. In fact everyone insisted he has the bonus.

the way i see it though is that he has the bonus because of the ease of light weight cc weapons. With the cumbersome bolter in the mix I just dont see that he gets the bonus.

I think its milking the free boltpistols and bending the rules.

as i wrote in the other post, limitations of the nuber of hands are gone in this edition. every model has as many hands as it specific codex allows it to get weaopns. a chaos space marine has bolt pistol, bolter and cc weapon and has 3 attacks on the charge. same with dark angel captains with dual lightning claws, plasma pistol and combi flamer, they are allowed to take this weapon combination and they dont get any disadvantages from taking it.

unless my eyes deceive me, this is the same question as the Chaos space marines (bolter, bp & CCW) what was the consensus on that?

I remember hearing something about true grit on chaos, but I'm guessing thats pretty old and out-of-date.
The only thing I've seen so far is someone saying "you chose which weapons you're using for that phase", so bolter for shooting phase, bp/ccw for assault, but I'm neither convinced for or against this.

Any other rules lawyers out there that want to give this a shot? =)

Righto, I posted this question in a couple of other places on the interwebs and the result was...... *long pause for suspense*... the model receives the bonus attack when wielding a BP & CCW & bolter.

Total of around 190 voters, 160ish saying the model gets the bonus attack.

The general opinion was that the combat-blade upgrade for the chapter champion was purely for the model that is already available, and serves no purpose other than to reduce his shooting range - which doesn't really matter!


So, I was wrong (yay!). Thanks guys for helping out =)


I'll also take this moment to officially apologise to Fhadhq - I kind of snapped at him a bit when he suggested I was wrong with my rules interpretation here (which instigated the poll taking...). It was wrong of me, he was right in his opinion according to the majority that voted on this, and I'm sorry - I shouldn't have taken it quite so personal.

Actually, This question came up back when the Chaos codex first came out.

The answer is "Yes they do get the bonus" the answer was given by Gav back on warseer iirc.

What fluff or logic dictates in ones mind may very well be different in the rules itself. The rules itself allow for that CCW attack bonus.

To make it easier for those who think it's unfluffy or illogical, Think of it as them slinging their bolters, they're space marines, i doubt the weight of a bolter would stop them slinging it and using their pistol and CCW.

Seriously though, this is not an issue, the rules are clear here.

So the close combat blade is now officially the most pointless thing for something to take. (if it has a bonus attack for power weapon and bolt pistol, it cannot gain any additional attacks from another close combat weapon, hence completely pointless) bar of course the Command and control node for the Tau.

PS: the honor guard entry is one of the most messed up work of GW.
-power -sword instead of power -weapon.
-digital -laser instead of digital -weapon.

So if you want it next time more complicated, buy the relic blades too.
